Thoughts on Playing a Warrior...

Fari. My best friend, Jayantii, started playing World of Warcraft because of her husband, Nimaothar. They're their characters' names, promise. Anyway, they were engaged at the time and she and I were roommates. She wanted me to try it.

At that point, I wanted nothing to do with an MMORPG. One of our mutual friends had her life run by everything in a different MMO. I was really turned off by the idea, but, at that time, I was planning on

Why in the world did I pick a dwarf warrior? Well, there's a few reasons.

Well first, Dwarf. I love dwarves. I've played games like D&D and other fantasy games forever and Dwarves have always been my favorite. So, it was just naturally a great choice for me to play a Dwarf.

Why a warrior? Well, because I've never really been big on playing spell casters.. But usually, when I pick up a video game or a tabletop, I play some sort of melee or tank. I was in a campaign for Warhammer Quest a couple of years ago (we modified the rules for our group) and I played a Skaven rogue named Slade (he was named after the rat in Shining Force II). I've played a dwarf paladin in D&D and I played a changeling rogue for a short campaign. So it was just natural for me to grab a warrior.

That being said,  Orienda, my mage, saw a little play in Cataclysm, and I'm fond of my Boomkin, Ceilagh (Kayla) as well. But I just can't get the hang of spellcasters as a whole. I prefer to be right in the boss's grill and beating him down. Kia says that "melee is for crazy people." Well. Yes. I would fully agree. I am one of those crazy people. My favorite characters to play are Fari, my feral druid Veliya, and my rogue, Springshadow. All melee. And yes, I'm one of those freaks that has both an intellect druid and an agility druid. Why end up with two full sets of gear when you can share a few pieces between two specs?

That was a ramble. Anyway, I've been playing Fari as my main for about 3 and a half years now. There was a period of time that I wasn't raiding on him (4.1- I was raiding on my rogue that's still on Dalaran), but Fari was still my main, tried and true.

Someone complimented me the other day on the fact that I play what is "the most crapped on race/spec in the game." And it's true. People complain about paladins and hunters getting nerfed all of the time and yes, they do. But the worst is when your class kind of gets ignored.

Warriors are that red-headed stepchild. The worst though, are the DPS warriors. Warriors are supposed to be tanks, and most things that happen with them are because of the tanks. Yes, I'm going to QQ about this. And let me tell you, I'm stumbling around learning the new rotation. It makes total and complete sense, I'm just kind of slow when it comes to learning fights.

Thankfully, warriors are incredibly mobile (I love you, Heroic Leap), so I can save my own butt when I make mistakes, but man, I'm clumsy as all get out. I'm not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination; once I understand and remember how a fight goes? I'm great, and can execute it and explain it just fine. The problem is getting to that point.

People in PuGs are really impatient, by the way. People yelled at me yesterday. Dyna told me today that she'd take me on some guild heroics so I could learn the fights more easily without people yelling at me. And by the way, healers, as a DPS warrior I only really have one cooldown that saves my rear end. The idiot that yelled at me yesterday should try to play fury. JUST SAYING.

Anyhow, other than stumbling through heroics, I still love my warrior. I'm not pulling close to the DPS I should be (I fumbled around 8k behind the other DPS I was with yesterday), but that's due to gear and the "omg what am I doing in this fight" that I'm struggling with. I'll be up to snuff eventually, I'm not that much of a noob. But that's why I'm a casual raider; too slow of a learner to be trying to progress in heroics.

By the way, congrats to the crew from my guild that got the first boss down in Mogu'shan Vaults last night, and we were the first guild on server to do so according to WoW Progress. Our heroic team ROCKS!

So, yes. This is playing a warrior. And my ramble. So, I hope you enjoyed some of my randomness, and you'll probably hear more from me this week.

Well Met!

  1. Warriors! Fuck yerrr!

Gotta haul you through moar. >.< Stupid time constraints and awful, horrible, butt-wracking chair...

Also, WTB fewer strength DPS in our guild for any given heroic run; it's so hard to help people get gear!
